How I became a Web Developer

Everything you need to know about my path.

I grew up in a small town in Oregon, nestled in the heart of the Columbia River Gorge, during an era before the internet. We played outside until the streetlights came on, walked across train tracks to reach Thunder Island, and saved up all our money for food at The Eastwind. It was here, in this small town, where I discovered my love for art. Growing up, I've been influenced by many different forms of artistic expression. I often daydreamed about the career I might have if I followed my passion for art. For a while, I thought the answer was graphic design. But that was only a piece of the bigger picture I was chasing.

In my early twenties, the idea of becoming a business owner crossed my mind. What could I sell? My art, of course. I was honing my graffiti drawing skills, spending a summer creating different names in various lettering fonts. As I continued to draw, the idea of creating a brand based on my artwork emerged. However, that idea was put on hold as life had other plans. It wasn't until late 2017 that I stumbled into web development. The goal was to re-design the business website of Press Herbs. Having had absolutely no experience. I had already been doing minor office work. So, I figured designing a website would be an easy task. My first website launched in December of 2017. Thanks to Wix.

Since launching my first site, I've dove into numerous other tasks related to web development. Most of it was self-taught. I desired to learn more about the skills I'd been tinkering with for many years. That is why I enrolled in Career Foundry to better my education and master my skills in Web development.
